A Journey . Acrylic on Canvas . 24 x 48 (each canvas)

This series was inspired by an extremely talented couple; a professional actor and a professional dancer; a mother and a father.  Their love for music, dance, and singing brought them together and has continued to be a big part of their journey as husband and wife. Inspiration came from numerous performances throughout their lives. Choreography from solos and duets performed all over the world were studied while sketching.  Also represented in the paintings is the choreography from the show Hair (when this talented couple performed together) and the “Dancing Through Life” choreography from the musical Wicked. The more personal inspiration came from a pose they made after walking down the aisle and the fun dance they had together right before delivering their first child.  The composition of this series as a whole was configured after “I Could’ve Danced All Night” from one of their performances in NYC.

“ THE ENTIRE PROCESS FROM START TO FINISH WAS SO PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL. OCCIPITAL TOOK PAINSTAKING CARE TO CREATE SUCH A SPECIAL PIECE FOR OUR HOME THAT WE’LL CHERISH FOREVER. SHE EXPLAINED EVERYTHING THOROUGHLY EVERY STEP OF THE WAY, WAS TOTALLY TRANSPARENT ABOUT EACH STEP OF THE PROCESS, AND MADE SURE WE WERE SATISFIED AND HAPPY AT EVERY TURN. THANK YOU FOR THIS AMAZING FUTURE FAMILY HEIRLOOM! “ — JP. LOS ANGELOS, CA

Lilia Ristorante : Quanto Basta . Gouache and Coffee on Paper . 40 x 40

A painting that is currently on display in Caffe Lilia in Brooklyn, NY. Owners Chef Missy Robbins and Sean Feeney have been very supportive of my artwork and I was honored when they asked for a commission. I wanted the painting to reflect the cafe, but not in a terribly obvious way. The figures were sketched based on body language of those that hang out at the space while enjoying the food, coffee, and community. The medium plays a major role in this painting. I experimented with coffee, gouache and coffee grinds to create great texture in this piece. The Quanto Basta was requested to be included in the design as it is a phrase used in many Italian recipes meaning “as much as needed”.

Slow Show by The National . Gouache on Paper . 20 x 24

This painting was done to celebrate newlyweds. Each figure representing a note on the sheet music of their wedding song. Taking a closer look you will notice another detail is the coming together of the grey figures. They come closer together throughout the composition and embrace at the end of the song. The measure numbers written on the top right of each set of bars is usually to help musicians know what measure they are on. In this case the numbers are of significance to the couple. Special dates of when they met and when they wed.

Bright Pink . Acrylic on Canvas . 20 x 16

I use the body language and the movement of the human form to express emotion in each painting. In this particular painting I wanted to reflect the strength of my muse who battled ovarian cancer and the support she received.   I imagine it is the same strength of every woman affiliated with Bright Pink. Bright Pink is an organization with a mission to help save lives from breast and ovarian cancer by empowering woman to manage their health proactively. This painting was donated and auctioned off to benefit the organization at their annual Tickled Pink for Bright Pink event.
